V.I.P. – Volunteer In Preschool (birth-2’s)
Not only are you a Volunteer in Preschool, but you are also a Very Important Person! You have the pleasure of taking care of our youngest children and laying the groundwork for them that “God Made Me, “God Loves Me,” and “Jesus Wants To Be My Friend Forever.” In Journey land our two most important guidelines are the health and safetyof every child. With that in mind, the following information is meant to prepare you for what to expect while serving in Journey land on Sunday mornings.
Infant, Crawler, Toddler’s and Two’s Rooms:
- Arrive at your designated time to set up your room or (if applicable) take instructions from the previous service’s teachers.
- Review each child’s name and Nursery information sheet upon their entrance to Journey land.
- Record attendance upon arrival )role is in classroom notebook).
- Tend to each child as needed, making sure to abide by parent’s instructions via the Nursery information sheet.
- Refer to Journey land’s policy for diaper changes (see back of card).
- Wipe down all toys with bleach wipes at the end of each service.
- Find a substitute for yourself if you know you will be absent (sub list will be provided for you).
- Report to Classroom Coordinator. Time spent in preparation=0 hours weekly. (Infants-Crawlers). Time spent in preparation=1/2-1 hour weekly. (Toddler’s-Two’s).
Procedures:
Diaper Changing:
- Prepare by gathering child’s new diaper and wipes (if available, if not, use classroom wipes).
- Put on latex gloves (provided in each classroom), Please us a different pair of gloves for each child.
- Change child’s diaper on the provided diaper-changing mat.
- When finished, and after child is off the mat, use bleach wipes to sanitize the diaper-changing mat, wipe dry with a paper towel. Repeat after every diaper change.
- Put all trash in the classroom’s trashcan.
- If the child has a Nursery information sheet, then please mark in appropriate area that the diaper has been changed.
- All children should have their diaper changed before the end of each service.
- Men are not allowed to change diapers.
Bathroom Procedure:
- You must have another adult accompany you and the children to the bathroom, no exceptions!
- Assist children only as needed.
- Make sure each child washes his or her hands when finished.
- We recommend taking your whole class at once to avoid repeated trips to the bathroom.
- No men may accompany children to the bathroom.
Other Information:
- Classroom supply sheets are located in the classroom notebook. If you notice supplies are down, please fill out the form, note which classroom the items(s) is needed in, and then give it to a Journey land Director.
- If you believe a child is sick, please alert a Journey land Director at once, and they will make the decision as to page the parents or not.
- If a child has been crying for 15 minutes, and you have done everything in your power to calm the child, please contact a Journey land Director to page the child’s parents.
- A member of the Host Team will come get the children as parents arrive. Please stay until you have a replacement or all your children have been picked up.
