Small Group Curriculum

Take a few minutes to review the motions for “LIFT UP, LOVE IN, LIVE OUT”.

Does anyone remember our memory verse from last week?  Pause for responses. It was “Be wise with one another.” Colossians 4:5.  This week our memory verse is “Depend on one another.”  Romans 12:5.  Let’s say that together and see if we can memorize it! “Depend on one another.” Romans 12:5. Repeat as necessary.

We have already learned about loving one another.  We can get to know one another by spending more time with each, and we should be nice to everyone.  But God make us to want more than that.  He wants us to develop lasting friendships.  It’s important to trust our friends, and for our friends to trust us.  The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 4:

Two people are better than one.  They can help each other in everything they do.
Suppose someone falls down.  Then his friend can help him up.
But suppose the man who falls down doesn’t have anyone to help him up.  Then feel sorry for him!
One person could be overpowered.  But two people can defend themselves.
And a rope made out of three cords isn’t easily broken.

It’s important to have a group of friends that care about us and are there for us to help us when we need them.  And we can help them, too!  Do you have friends at church or school who care about you no matter what?  Pause for responses.

It’s also important that we have friends who love God, too.  We can help each to learn more about Him, and we can do fun things for Him together.  Remember that on October 10, we have the chance to serve God with our friends by helping people in our community.

Wrap Up

Today we have been talking about making good friends, and being a good friend.  Let’s pray to God for His help:

Dear God,

Help me to find friends that I can trust and friends that will help me grow closer to you.  Help me to be a good friend to others and to build lasting friendships.  Amen.

How many of you have been coloring in your devotional book every day?  Here is this week’s devotional.  Don’t forget to talk about all that you are learning with your family!

See what kids can repeat the memory verse and add a bead to their nametag.
